“Pieter Lefferts’, “What The Kek Kek Saw”, is a fascinating and moving fable from the complex imagined culture and society of the animals populating the Eastern Woodland ecosystems of The Adirondack Mountain Region of New York. This is UnCollected Press’s 2nd foray into fables from the animal kingdom, and we are very excited to be publishing this intricate and intensely relevant tale of a universal quest and journey to discovery. At its core, Pieter’s book is a call to all of us human animals to find a way to better listen to and understand our relationships with the other sentient beings on this planet – and to learn from our often wiser brethren. Pieter’s book is insightful, eloquent and important . We loved this expansive read and are sure you will also.” – Editors, UnCollected Press

Imaginistic journey into life in the woods of the Adirondaks

I gave Pieter Lefferts book, What the Kek Kek Saw, to my husband for Christmas. He knows the author – who is a fellow artist – and was completely captivated by how Piet immerses both himself and the reader into a magical world that is mysterious, imaginistic, and beautiful, just as Pieter paints.

A timely and novel rumination on humans and nature

Simply fantastic. As someone who hardly breaks from reading non-fiction, this book drew me out of my heady, analytical spell and cast me in an entirely different one with wisdom about our natural world that I’ll sit with for years. Young adults, especially today, have so much to gain from reading this book: namely, a challenge to the ways we’re taught to see nature and civilization, human society and wildlife, as different. But the book’s depth—and its mystical and philosophical heights—give readers of all ages something to chew on and enjoy. With eloquent, clever writing and scenes that read like paintings, it’s hard not to be drawn into what Rana, the kek kek, saw. This book is a breath of fresh air that I can’t recommend highly enough.
